At IIT Kharagpur, I lead the Environmental Microbiology and Genomics Laboratory. Our major research activity is focused on exploring environmental microbiomes and their biotechnological potentials using a combination of multi-omics and geo-analytical approaches. This includes elucidation of microbial community compositions and function, species interaction, bio-geo interactions and deciphering the details of the community function and its environmental regulation.
We are welcoming for PhD applications from students interested in: environmental microbiology, marine microbiology, bioinformatics, genomics and exploratory research .
About me
I am a microbiologist working in the field of environmental microbiology and genomics. I received my BSc and MSc in botany in 1991 and 1993 respectively from University of Burdwan, Burdwan, India and went on to earn my PhD from Banaras Hindu University in 1999. I was a Dr K S Krishnan Research Associate at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, India from 2000-2002, and a BOYSCAST fellow at Rice University, Houston, Texas, USA from 2007-2008. I joined the BSBT Department of IIT Kharagpur in 2004. I have been holding the position of Head of the Department of BSBT since December 2024.
